You heard it here… 10th: D90s likely

Consensus about an impending D90s announcement is building in the easily excited Nikon community. Some point to dropping prices in the US, though that seems just as likely a result of the Yen losing strength against the US dollar. Nikon could hold the line on price for the very popular D90 regardless of currency exchange rates and continue to rake in profit. Instead, they are letting D90 prices get closer to the newer D5000, and that is highly suggestive of a drive to reduce inventory as the Christmas buying season gets rolling. That would mean that D90s press release would not come until next year. PMA, anyone?
As mentioned at Nikon D90s Latest Rumors at DentonImages.com, Nikon’s likely motivation is to update the D90′s video capabilities with regards to auto focus and bring it more in line with the newly released D300s’ video functionality. If, as they did for the D300s, they could improve high ISO performance just a smidgeon, all the better. That brings us to a secondary, more subtle motivation. While Canon just fired a big salvo with its 18 megapixel 7D, Nikon’s strategy seems to fall more along the lines of holding down the fort, strengthening a few of the fortifications, until it is ready — perhaps in as many as 2 years, perish the thought — to come out with its next APS-C contender, a.k.a., the D400. The D300s was the first step in that APS-C strategy, and a D90s seems likely to follow along the same lines.
One last reinforcing argument for these speculations: Ken Rockwell hasn’t said anything about a D90s, and that makes it a sure thing.

Ha–even when he _doesn’t_ have an opinion about something, Rockwell gets flak. That guy can’t win.

Sorry. I couldn’t resist the cheap shot, and I’m sure he doesn’t mind the free publicity.

Ken Rockwell just declared “The end of the DSLR’s reign for outdoor, nature, interior and landscape photography,” so I guess maybe he knows and just doesn’t care.

Rockwell – ha ha that’s pretty funny.
To say the Nikon community is easily excited is an understatement
Just as a nite on video improvements – I actually like the video on the D Lux 4 a little better than my D90. This is after brief glances. The D90 came a few weeks ago and I did some brief tests with it, and basically put it on the shelf. I just bought it as a backup. It’s a very capable little cam.
I just have a laugh at some of the DSLR users complaining about the video because they can’t produce the next Star Wars with it. It is what it is. Good for little productions, family stuff, vacation footage, etc. I find the video is useful for me when I pre-scout a job location. And maybe for some B Roll motion on the rare occasion tat I shoot a wedding. It’s simply not a pro video tool, especially handheld. I do appreciate the inclusion of the feature though.

The D90 is just lacking a little in handling for me. I am just used to bigger cameras.

I really do not see how you can improve the price/performance of the D90.
You can buy a body with free shipping off Amaz0n for $814.
Any improvemnets will end up costing a lot more and narrowing the distance between a used D300 and a new D90s.
